Marlow is one of those towns that quietly spoils you. It’s polished but relaxed, picturesque without trying too hard, and just happens to be home to some of the best food in the country. The key is pacing it properly — this is not a rush-in, rush-out kind of place. Here’s how to spend a full day in Marlow, from your first coffee to your final forkful.
Marlow mornings deserve a proper beginning, and breakfast at The Coach sets the tone perfectly. It’s casual, confident, and quietly excellent — the sort of place where simple dishes are done properly, without fuss. Fuel up, take your time, and resist the urge to check the clock. You’ve got a good day ahead.
With breakfast out of the way, head straight for the river. The Thames Path around Marlow is peaceful and flat, ideal for easing into the day. Swans glide past, rowers skim the water, and the town feels calm before it fully wakes up. It’s one of the best ways to get your bearings — and your appetite going again.
You’ll inevitably find yourself crossing Marlow Bridge, and that’s exactly as it should be. Designed by William Tierney Clark, it’s elegant, photogenic, and offers some of the best river views in town. Stop midway, look up and down the Thames, and let the place sink in.
The Hand & Flowers food is based around pub classics elevated to new heights and the dishes are among the best in the uk. Characterised by rich, powerful flavours – and the presentation is first-rate.
Michelin Guide
Late morning is perfect for Higginson Park. Sitting right on the river, it’s Marlow’s green living room — somewhere to watch boats launch, sit in the sun, or grab a takeaway coffee and do very little for a while. In warmer months, there’s often live music or events adding to the gentle buzz.
Marlow’s High Street manages to feel both smart and welcoming. Independent shops sit comfortably alongside well-chosen chains, making it an easy place to wander without feeling overwhelmed. Dip into delis, browse homeware, and maybe pick up something you didn’t plan to buy (it happens).
Tucked just behind the High Street, the Court Garden is a small but lovely surprise — especially in spring and summer. It’s quiet, leafy, and feels like a secret, making it an ideal spot for a breather before the afternoon rolls on.
By early afternoon, it’s time to get out on the Thames. Whether you hire a boat, kayak, or paddleboard, seeing Marlow from the water adds a completely different perspective. It’s slower, greener, and even more charming from river level.
